When I was growing up in East Texas, my mother taught me many valuable truths. Two of those she taught me have become guiding lights for me, and I have tried to use them throughout my business and personal life. I do believe that they have been the main reason I have had success in Synergy and other businesses. Some have called them secrets, but they aren’t. They are truths that have worked for thousands of years, and they still apply today.

When I was young, we learned some art by connecting the dots of a picture, and then we would finish by coloring it. That is exactly what you must do. The people you bring in to this company have THEIR dreams—their hopes and their goals, not yours. You can and must help them by connecting the dots, but the beautiful picture at the end is theirs to paint.

Look at the people who have influenced the world, look at Gandhi, at Martin Luther King, at Ronald Reagan and others. They succeeded by helping people see the dream of a better tomorrow and teaching them how to make it come true. As Synergy distributors, our job is to show others how Synergy fits into that picture.

Next, you do all you can to help others succeed. We live in a narcissistic world of me, me, and me. Stop that! If you want to succeed in this life, you will only do so by thinking of and helping others. The more you help others, the happier you will be and the more success you will have. If you look at our compensation plan, it is not about retailing, it is not about building two or four legs, or even sponsoring thousands of people—it is about helping others.

Many people think I have sponsored hundreds of people. But that is far from the truth. I usually sponsor one to three people in each country, and then give everything I can to help them succeed. I concentrate on helping them. Would you prefer to Mega-Match five people who make $10,000 U.S. dollars a month or hundreds who make little?

In our compensation plan, by helping others, you will succeed. It is a simple, yet powerful truth in building your downline. As you sponsor new people, work with them, call them daily, go the extra mile, earn their trust—and you will succeed.

I am very grateful to Synergy and for the opportunity it offers to millions of people worldwide. We are making history with our combination of a highly skilled management team, headed by Dan Higginson, of a product line that provides the latest breakthroughs in science and nature, and of a compensation plan that generously rewards us for the time and effort we devote to our business.

Many people ask me, “Is Synergy going to succeed?” I always reply, “It isn’t a question of if we will succeed. We already have. The only question left is how many of you will come along and join the ride as we create the greatest company in network marketing history.”

Finally, remember the person you are today, before success comes. Write down your goals and dreams. After you achieve success, compare that list to what you are doing. Don’t let money change you. Let it be a vehicle to help others. I am the luckiest man alive, not because my Synergy check is large, but because I have a wonderful wife, Heather, and we have five great children (soon to be six).
